Since an autonomous information system has no meaning without data, there is a need to reform vehicle information between reality and the information system. This can be achieved by human agents or by special intelligent equipment that allows identification of vehicles by their registration number in real environments.

Extraction of Registration number plate is a difficult task. Essentially, the difficulty can be due to the following reasons: Registration number normally occupy a small portion of the whole image. The Registration number plates in formats, styles, and colors vary from country to country. In most cases, the detecting is performed without prior knowledge of the Registration number plate’s location in the image. Probability of facing some common drawbacks which could influence the efficiency of the extraction such as, blurry image, uneven or low illumination, vehicle motion, low resolution of the image, distorted characters, dirty plate, shadows or reflection etc..
Angle impact and processing for higher Accuracy
Automatic number detection in videos is required as it is tedious and time consuming for human operators to extract a vehicle number from thousands of video stream.
Image processing is critical part of Registration number detection. Real-time LPR plays a major role in the automatic monitoring of traffic rules and maintaining law enforcement on public roads.

The detection and reading of registration number of vehicles is an intelligent system and it has the potential applications in several sectors as well.

  • Image Compression and categorization : To reduce the memory requirement while storing a data image.
  • Road safety : This system is used to detect license plates exceeding a certain speed, coupling the plate reading system with road radar, crossing wildfires, etc.
